Indian Air Force News – The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has achieved a significant milestone with the successful release trials of the Long-Range Glide Bomb (LRGB) ‘Gaurav conducted between April 8-10, 2025, from the Indian Air Force’s Su-30 MKI aircraft.

Su-30 MKI – Precision and Power Demonstrated

The trials showcased the 1,000 kg-class glide bomb’s capabilities, with the weapon integrated into multiple stations and tested in various warhead configurations against a land target on an island. 

Gaurav’ demonstrated a remarkable range of nearly 100 km with pinpoint accuracy, marking a leap in India’s indigenous defense technology.

Indigenous Innovation

Indigenously designed and developed by DRDO’s Research Centre Imarat, Armament Research and Development Establishment, and Integrated Test Range, Chandipur, ‘Gaurav’ reflects India’s growing self-reliance in defense manufacturing. 

The project was supported by industry partners, including Adani Defence Systems & Technologies, Bharat Forge, and several MSMEs, alongside certifications from the Centre for Military Airworthiness & Certification and the Directorate General of Aeronautical Quality Assurance.

Path to IAF Induction

The successful trials pave the way for ‘Gaurav’s integration into the Indian Air Force (IAF), enhancing its precision strike capabilities. 

Senior DRDO and IAF officials closely monitored the trials, underscoring the collaborative effort behind this achievement.

Leadership Applauds Milestone

Raksha Mantri Shri Rajnath Singh lauded DRDO, IAF, and industry partners, stating, “The development of ‘Gaurav’ significantly strengthens the Armed Forces’ capabilities.” 

Dr. Samir V Kamat, Secretary, Department of Defence R&D and DRDO Chairman, also congratulated the team for the successful trials.

This breakthrough reinforces India’s commitment to advancing indigenous defense technologies.
