Indian Navy News, Karwar, April 5, 2025 – Raksha Mantri Shri Rajnath Singh inaugurated the first phase of the Naval Commanders’ Conference 2025 at Karwar Naval Base, Karnataka, today, emphasizing the Indian Navy’s pivotal role in ensuring maritime security and advancing national interests in the Indian Ocean Region (IOR).
Reviewing Maritime Security
During the session, Shri Rajnath Singh reviewed the current maritime security landscape and the Indian Navy’s operational readiness.
Discussions focused on addressing contemporary security challenges, enhancing combat capabilities, and strategizing for future threats in the dynamic geopolitical environment.
Commending Naval Excellence
Addressing the Naval Commanders, the Raksha Mantri lauded the Navy’s unwavering commitment to safeguarding India’s maritime borders. “The Indian Navy has surpassed expectations, displaying innovation and dedication in every situation,” he said, highlighting its contributions to national security and regional stability.
Flagging-Off INS Sunayna for SAGAR Mission
The conference coincided with the flag-off of INS Sunayna for the Indian Ocean Ship Security and Growth for All in the Region (SAGAR) mission. This deployment, involving a combined crew from India and nine IOR nations, underscores India’s vision of MAHASAGAR—Mutual and Holistic Advancement for Security Across the Regions.
Inaugurating Project Seabird Infrastructure
Shri Rajnath Singh also inaugurated key infrastructure under Project Seabird, including nine state-of-the-art marine piers, eight residential buildings, and other critical facilities. These developments strengthen Karwar’s strategic importance as a major naval hub.
Focus on Modernization and Reforms
Highlighting 2025 as the ‘Year of Reforms’ for the Ministry of Defence, the Raksha Mantri emphasized the unprecedented pace of naval modernization over the past decade. He noted the induction of advanced platforms and equipment, boosting the Navy’s prowess and morale.
Looking Ahead
The second phase of the conference, scheduled for April 7-10 in New Delhi, will further deliberate on operational, logistical, and administrative aspects, with inputs from the Chiefs of the Army and Air Force to foster tri-service synergy.
The event, attended by Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan, Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi, and senior officials, reaffirmed India’s resolve to maintain a combat-ready and future-ready Navy.
