India Defence News, West Bengal – Following reports of communal violence in West Bengal’s Murshidabad district, Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan conducted a video conference with the state’s Chief Secretary Manoj Pant and Director General of Police (DGP) Rajeev Kumar on April 12, 2025, to assess the situation.
The DGP informed the Home Secretary that the situation, while tense, was under control and being closely monitored. He added that the state police were working with locally stationed Border Security Force (BSF) personnel, with over 150 individuals already arrested in connection with the unrest.
During the meeting, the Union Home Secretary revealed that, in addition to the approximately 300 BSF personnel already present in Murshidabad, five more companies had been deployed at the state government’s request to help restore order.
The Union Home Secretary urged the state administration to remain vigilant in other sensitive districts and to implement necessary measures to ensure a swift return to normalcy.
Union Home Secretary also assured the state of the Centre’s full support, including the provision of additional personnel if required, while emphasizing that the central government was actively monitoring the developments in the region.
